What are the main difficulties of Brazilian physical coaches working abroad?
One of the main difficulties is cultural issues. I used to work in Saudi Arabia and South Korea and have worked in China for several years. Each country has its own culture and belief, all these will eventually be integrated into football. Brazil’s physical training has been widely recognized all over the world, especially in Asia. In addition, Brazilians can easily adapt to life everywhere.
How does it feel to work in two countries with completely different cultures from Brazil, such as Saudi Arabia and China? What are the difficulties of adapting to life in these places?
Adapt to local culture. The temperature in Saudi Arabia is very high, and most of the training is conducted at night, which requires some changes. The players stay at home during the day and reach the training ground at night. However, South Korean players are more like soldiers, and they need more intensive training.
There are still some interesting things in china. They are very good at individual sports, but they are more difficult in collective sports. I think the reason is that parents only have one child to a large extent, this will make them a more individualistic person.
Saudi Arabia and China have many Brazilians. In what ways has this promoted your work and opened the door to other professionals?
Brazil is a multicultural country, which finally promotes our ability to adapt to other places. If there is already a Brazilian in the club, it will be of great help to the implementation of the work.
What is the main difference between your job in Brazil and your job in other places?
Our country has a vast territory, and I have encountered some obstacles due to the long journey. China is also very large, but it has quite extensive railway and aviation networks. In South Korea, even if we play away, we always rest at home, which is very easy.
You have a coach license in Brazil so that you can better understand the coach’s work and make better physical preparation. When did you come up with this idea? How much is the direct impact of obtaining certificates and attending courses on your career?
Today’s football is no longer an isolated job, but limited to technology, tactics or physical fitness. Everything must be integrated. As a physical coach, I need to understand the coach’s concept and competition mode, and then integrate my concept into the coach’s concept. This work is systematic and connects all the details. The coach license of the Brazilian Football Association can provide guidelines for developing work.
When you become a member of the Chinese national team, what are your main needs? What do players think of your work?
When I started working in the Chinese team during the World Cup qualifier in Qatar, I missed the integration between the Football Association and the team. The club did not provide detailed information about the players. We are still developing in this aspect, but it has improved a lot.

This is the main event in the region. We have a brand new Serbian coaching team and hope to use the international competition day to prepare. The team we hope to face is similar to the team we face in the Asian Cup, we will have a training session in December, a longer training period.
What is the next step in your career in the medium and long term? Do you want to go back to Brazil?
Working abroad involves family and economy. My primary task now is family. I have a 7-year-old son and a 20-month-old daughter, china’s education has strong continuity, which is very good. I hope to stay here for a long time. I want to fight for the Super League championship to the end and for the national team to fight for a great Asian Cup.
